DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) – The controversy surrounding the Washington ‘Redskins’ name just will not go away.
Redskins owner Daniel Snyder isn’t backing down, preferring to keep the name. President Obama said last week that he would “think about changing” the name if he were the team’s owner.
Now a Redskins legend is weighing in.
Former Redskins QB Joe Theismann joined 105.3 The Fan’s New School with Shan & RJ on Thursday to give his opinion on the burning debate.
“Whatever is going to be decided won’t be decided by me,” said Theismann. “I will tell you this. When I wore the Washington Redskin uniform, I wore it with great pride to represent the Native American nations in this country.”
Theismann was inducted into the Washington Redskins Ring of Fame after guiding the Redskins to victory in Super Bowl XVII.
“When we won a Super Bowl, I was given a headdress. To me, I very proudly display that.”
